A typical Montreal apartment

It's no doubt that one of the architectural curiosities of Montreal are the spiral staircases on the facades. This allows tenants to have a personal entrance and to enter their apartment without having to go through a lobby. A recent poll conducted among Montrealers has shown that the citizens believe that these staircases are the most representative symbol of the city. More important than the Olympic stadium or Mount Royal!
We were lucky to have lived in such a house for the last two years. Soon, we're moving to South Carolina. So I decided to immortalize the interior and exterior of our apartment in the following pictures. Are you interested in seeing what a typical Montreal apartment looks like? Then come in! Our door is the rightmost on the first floor!

Please take your shoes off and put your coat on the rack.
1.

I'm actually pretty proud of that rack. It was produced by a local craftsman (myself!) and from local material (I picked up dead tree branches in nearby park Lafontaine).
2.

There's our bedroom, and bathroom.
3.

The bathroom has no bath, but we do have a nice shower cabin.
4.

And this is our bedroom. We always hear the stairs wiggling when the neighbors come up and down.
5.

By the way, we picked up our bed and commode on the street. If you look well enough, you can find all sorts of good stuff. But our friends still call us hobos.
6.

Some of the flowers that we picked at the foot of Austria's tallest mountain are now hanging in our bedroom.
7.

From the bedroom, you can see the entire apartment. In these houses, the apartments are typically long and narrow, so very little daylight gets in. Even by day, we always have our lights turned on.
8.

I'm really proud of this shelf as well. It's also made by a local, but the material is store-bought.
9.

My parents gave us this clock for our wedding. It says "Who cares!"
10.

We were lucky to get a newly renovated kitchen.
11.

12.

We found our washer and dryer on the street on craigslist for 20$! All the shelves you see are again, made by a local. The materials were actually found on the street. The door on the left leads to the back yard.
13.

And that's what the backyard looks like. When we moved in, there was a bathtub buried under the stairs (!) bricks, rocks and various garbage was lying all around and there were heaps of pennies here and there (!!!) So we got rid of the bath and used the bricks to build a sort of bench. We even made a ceramic mosaic on it to lighten it up. On the left, you can see pieces of wood which will probably not get transformed into shelves.
14.

Despite this, the backyard did not become a pleasant place to be. I used it as a place for crafting stuff out of wood.
15.

Also, there's a pretty strong cat smell throughout spring and parts of summer.
16.

So that's that. This was our apartment in Plateau adjacent.
17.

At the entrance, we keep our trusty horses. The street is narrow, but quiet.
18.

Thanks for watching!
